We’ve got multiple college degrees and we’re confused about redistricting – how will voters figure this out by November 6th?

The San Jose Metropolitan area is currently in 3 congressional districts:  14, 15, and 16 -- but they will all be impacted by redistricting.

California's 16th congressional district covers part of Santa Clara County and includes much of central San Jose. The district is currently represented by Democrat Zoe Lofgren.


As a result of a redistricting initiative passed during the 2010 election, most of the former 16th district, along with parts of the former 11th and 15th districts, will be part of the new 19th district beginning in the 2012 elections; the new 16th district will occupy the areas around Merced and Fresno.

California's 15th congressional district covers part of Santa Clara County west of San Jose and includes the cities of Los Gatos and Cupertino in Silicon Valley. According to a 2006 report, the district is the fifth wealthiest in the nation, behind Virginia's 11th Congressional District, New Jersey's 11th, California's 14th , and Georgia's 6th Congressional District. It is the only minority-majority district among the ten wealthiest districts in the United States.

The district is currently represented by Democrat Mike Honda, who will be a candidate in District 17 in November, due to redistricting!

As a result of a redistricting initiative passed during the 2010 election, the northern parts of the former 15th district will become part of the new 17th District, the middle parts will be merged with most of the former 14th District to create the new 18th district, and the southern parts will be merged with most of the former 16th District to create the new 19th District; the new 15th district will occupy the areas around Union City, Hayward, and Livermore. The changes will take effect in the 2012 elections.

California's 14th congressional district is located between San Francisco and San Jose. The district includes portions of San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties and most notably contains part of Silicon Valley. Major cities in the district include Redwood City, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto. According to a 2006 report, this district was the third wealthiest in the nation, behind Virginia's 11th and New Jersey's 11th Congressional Districts.

The district is currently represented by Democrat Anna G. Eshoo.
